The pie on the windowsill
perfumes the air with
candy sweetness
and just a hint
of tart
All who wander by it yearn
slow down and breathe deep
taste buds longing
to brave liquid fire
and dance
And then fingers dart and grab
a thief so cat quick
who scampers off
on cloven feet
laughing
Yet we are happy victims
mulct by fae can bite
but better pie
than babes
tonight

Ha! Though sticky, this verse is endearing. As victims, we have to find comfort in happiness after all.
Well-penned.

Great work.
I love these parts:
“and just a hint
of tart
All who wander by it yearn”
“fingers dart and grab
a thief so cat quick
who scampers off
on cloven feet
laughing”

A pie so good it attracts fairy creatures. Better get that recipe.

The fae would agree, and they have impeccable taste. 🙂

I found this poem delightful, exploring all the ways a delicacy of “pie” can tempt you as it cools on a windowsill. More importantly I found a phrase that I had no knowledge of and it gave me great joy to explore the meanings of “mulct by fae”. All new to me until now. Thank you!
