Sticky

The pie on the windowsill

perfumes the air with

candy sweetness

and just a hint

of tart

All who wander by it yearn

slow down and breathe deep

taste buds longing

to brave liquid fire

and dance

And then fingers dart and grab

a thief so cat quick

who scampers off

on cloven feet

laughing

Yet we are happy victims

mulct by fae can bite

but better pie

than babes

tonight

  1. Great work.

    I love these parts:

    “and just a hint
    of tart
All who wander by it yearn”

    “fingers dart and grab
    a thief so cat quick
    who scampers off
    on cloven feet
    laughing”

  2. I found this poem delightful, exploring all the ways a delicacy of “pie” can tempt you as it cools on a windowsill. More importantly I found a phrase that I had no knowledge of and it gave me great joy to explore the meanings of “mulct by fae”. All new to me until now. Thank you!
